Hello, I am sure this subject as been talked about before a 1000 times. But, when I go to search for my questions I am getting a lots of little bit of info. Nothing really answering any questions in detail. This is what I am trying to get done, I would like to print some masking designs onto some kind of blank sheets (using my PC), were I then can cut out the design, the apply them in side my body for a mask. I see that XXX main sell something like this. But I can not find it on there website.
I also see that people are buying vinyl roller that they are cutting to size (I am guessing)?? What kind of vinyl am I looking for? There are hundreds of type of vinyl, what is best to use?
Better question, were can I buy 8 x 11 sheets of vinyl (or whatever) for a good price? If I have to buy a roller of vinyl to cut down to size, can you tell me what type to buy (manufacture, part #, anything if you can.)??? Thanks for your time. I am tried of using 2 inch think masking tape on wax paper.
Not very easy to do. From what I know, frisket film is designed for flat pieces, like a hang-on-the-wall painting, so I don't believe it would work work really well on a contoured rc car body. I believe Charlie does most of his stuff freehand with LM or masking tape, he has years of experience, so it's easier for him.
I'm not sure how well this would work, but it's a shot: if you really had to print it out then you could print it on regualar paper, take it out of the printer and lay it over vinyl and cut through both layers. Hope this helps. There has to be painters that are doing this. Most all great airbrushing techniques use masking. I have about 10 years with an airbrush. I need to be able to print my design off a computer, then cut it out, and paste inside the body. That would save about 10 hours off the process.
I am tired of having to draw my design on the outside of the body, then masking the whole body, then cutting out my design (leaving cuts in the body with my exacta knife no matter what). MUCH MUCH easy to print out the bigger designs on a mask, then cutting that mask out side the body, than apply that mask inside the body, then painting only the small parts by hand. CAN ANY ONE TELL ME, IF THERE IS SOMETHING I CAN PRINT ON, CUT OUT, and APPLY inside a body for Mask that will not leave residue when i remove?
I find that hard to believe i am the only person asking about this??? You do need to be careful on the type of vinyl. The adhesive backing can leave some residue behind. I use Oracal 651. It sticks really well. So no bleed marks.
But a little heat from a heat gun and it comes off really well. With no residue left behind. You can get a roll of 15inchx10yards for under $20 from online sign shops.I looked up paint mask on a web site that sells this stuff and Oracal 813 came up. The desc says its rigid??I wonder if that means it wont take to curves. Im considering getting one of these vinyl plotters.but the prices arent what somone might call cheap so I want to make sure this would be idea for RC car painting. The way vinyl masking is done, is with some sort of plotter.
