My experience is only with a 2012 Panasonic Plasma but there is no question units like ATV and Roku output FAR superior to my Plasma over my 2012 Mac Mini using HDMI. It doesn't have anything to do with video file quality as I have had 25GB 1080p Bluray rips on my Mini and it will still get out performed by 1080p Roku streaming. The video signal is just cleaner for whatever reason and doesn't crush blacks and lose shadow detail nearly as much. I do agree with others though that the Mini to a TV is still awesome using a keyboard and magic trackpad.

You can airplay roon to the ATV. I don't use apple music directly on the ATV, instead I airplay to it and control with my phone. Torrents on the mini. I have run a plex server for years(it can do music too). My setup has automatic torrenting/newsgroups, puts it in folders, shows up nice a pretty in plex and infuse and is viewable on anything. I also have a tablo(4 tuner OTA) and a program that rips the shows from that and also drops it in folders automatically which shows up in plex/infuse. Works very much like a DVR.
